What to expect when you visit your Houston Orthodontist

Visiting the orthodontist can certainly be a nervous experience for some. After all, you are getting braces put on your teeth for a period of 1-2 years! But it really isn’t as scary as you might be thinking. We want to help fix your teeth so that they are as straight as possible and you are happy to smile again.  The Houston Orthodontic practice of Dr. Mike Mizell is here to make beautiful smile happen.

Patient and Mom Smiling at Houston Orthodontics Office

When you make your first appointment with our office, you will be given a specific treatment plan. We will show you exactly what we need to do while you are a patient of ours, and we will also try to give you as close of a timeline as we can as to when your braces actually come off. We know that is an important concern of yours!

However, every patient we see is different. Everyone has various biological responses when they are seen for orthodontic treatment. Not only that, some people have teeth that move or shift faster than others, speeding up the process. But we do our best to give you a close estimate of when your braces will come off.

We can also provide you with tips and suggestions that can help your treatment move along a bit faster. We suggest following these directions as closely as possible, as this avoids having any setbacks to your treatment. We know you don’t want any more delays than are necessary!

  • Always try to make your routine appointments. If you don’t, your treatment could be delayed. A couple of missed appointments could add up to a month or more of wearing your braces!
  • You will still need to keep up with regular brushing and flossing while you wear braces. You may need a special rinse to get under your braces and bands to make sure every spot is getting clean.
  • If you must wear rubber bands or any other appliance, please be diligent about it. We know it is hard sometimes but not wearing what you should be can cause a delay in getting your braces off.
  • Always wear a mouth guard if you are a part of any sports activity. You want to do everything that you can to avoid damaging your braces!

We know that you want to have the best smile possible. Following these guidelines allows our team to do our part in providing you the very best orthodontic treatment possible. Soon you will have that beautiful, dazzling smile that you have always wanted, with perfectly straight teeth! If you have any questions or concerns at all, please call us or bring them up at your next orthodontist appointment. We are here for you!
